MDAQMD PLACES 3RD IN STATEWIDE
COMMUNICATIONS COMPETITION
Victorville – The Mojave Desert Air Quality Management District (MDAQMD) has been named an Award of Merit winner in the California Association of Public Information Official’s (CAPIO) 2005 communications competition, officials from the statewide organization have announced.
The MDAQMD was awarded third place in the Special Innovation category for “Working Together...We Are the Solution to Pollution,” a children’s activity book developed by MDAQMD Community Relations & Education Specialist Cynnthia Baker for use by the Mojave Environmental Education Consortium (MEEC). MEEC is a public-private partnership sponsored by 30 local businesses and organizations, which links local teachers with quality environmental education resources, free of charge.
“With the competition as tough as it was, it’s quite an honor to have placed as high as we did,” stated Chuck Fryxell, Air Pollution Control Officer for the MDAQMD. The MDAQMD bested the City of Beverly Hills and several other highly regarded organizations in the Special Innovations category, which recognizes novel communication projects that demonstrate exceptional creativity and introduce concepts that are unique, while helping to further an agency’s goals.
CAPIO – an affiliate of the League of California Cities – received nearly 100 entries from government, non-profit, educational and private agencies statewide. Three winners were named in nine distinct program categories, as determined by a panel of judges with broad expertise in communications, marketing and public relations. The awards were presented as part of CAPIO’s annual training conference held in Napa, California from April 13-15.
