Welcome to the MDAQMD Student Connection!

Each spring the MDAQMD hosts a Clean Air Poster Month Contest. The theme of the MDAQMD's Clean Air Month Poster Contest changes and offers students in grades K-12 the chance to win $100 or other cash prizes. Winner's posters will be included in the District's annual calendar. Additionally, each poster entry will by entered into a drawing to win one of two bicycles! The contest is cosponsored by the Air & Waste Management Association - Mojave Chapter, the Daily Press and the Victor Valley Transit Authority.




2018 Clean Air Month Poster winners will be featured in the District's 2019 Clean Air Calendar. Free copies will be available Nov. 12 at the District offices. Be sure to pick up your calendar!


  • Why is Coco Orange? - Coco the chameleon can't change colors, and his asthma is acting up. Read how Coco and his friends at Lizard Lick elementary solve this mystery as they learn about air quality and how to stay healthy when the air quality is bad. This picture book was produced by the US Environmental Protection Agency for all children-- especially those with asthma--and their caretakers.
  • Students can read the "Wood Smoke Children's Activity Book" to learn about best practice methods to safely burn wood to protect their health while coloring pictures and doing fun activities!

Outstanding Environmental Science Fair Projects

Win a $25 (school level) or $50 (district and regional level) gift card! Enter an environmental project into your school science fair!

Hosted by schools throughout the Mojave Desert and cosponsored by the MDAQMD, the Air & Waste Management Association (Mojave Desert Chapter) and the Mojave Environmental Education Consortium (MEEC).

Every year we are on the lookout for the most Outstanding Environmental Science Fair Projects! When our Judges select the most Outstanding Environmental Science Project during your school science fair, the winner receives a radiant blue ribbon, a certificate and a $25 and/or $50 gift card!

If your school is having a science fair, check with your school Science Fair Coordinator to find out if they have invited the MDAQMD, A&WMA & MEEC to select an Outstanding Environmental Science Fair Project winner.
